Element 4 Electric Bass – Trans-Red Finish With Open Pore Maple Fretboard
Michael Kelly Element 4OP Electric Bass – Trans Red
Open-Pore Sungkai Body | Maple Fretboard | Active/Passive Electronics
Some basses give you one sound and ask you to work around it. The Michael Kelly Element 4OP takes a different approach.
Built around a Sungkai body with an open-pore Trans Red finish, the Element 4OP pairs a natural, tactile feel with a decidedly modern electronics package. Look closely and you can still see the character of the wood beneath the finish—a detail that gives this bass considerably more personality than the typical solid-color instrument.
But the part gear heads will appreciate is underneath the surface.
A 34-inch scale maple neck and maple fingerboard give the Element 4OP the familiar proportions of a full-scale bass, while the Comfort C neck profile and 38mm nut width create a platform designed for comfortable movement across the neck.
Then there are the electronics.
Two Rockfield MK4SA single-coil pickups feed the onboard Element active circuit, giving you dedicated Bass and Treble controls alongside pickup blend and master volume.
Need more shaping at the bass itself? Run it active.
Want to simplify the signal path and move into passive territory? Pull the master-volume control to bypass the active circuit.
That active/passive switching makes the Element 4OP particularly interesting for players who move between different rigs, sessions or stages. Instead of committing the instrument to one electronic personality, you have two operating modes available from the bass itself.
WHY IT STANDS OUT
ACTIVE + PASSIVE IN ONE BASS
A push/pull master-volume control lets you bypass the active circuit and switch to passive operation.
DUAL SINGLE-COIL CONFIGURATION
Two Rockfield MK4SA pickups are paired with a pickup-blend control, letting you change the balance between the neck and bridge positions.
ONBOARD 2-BAND EQ
Bass and Treble controls put additional tonal adjustment directly under your fingertips when operating through the active circuit.
FULL 34" SCALE
A traditional full-scale layout gives the Element 4OP familiar spacing and response for players accustomed to standard long-scale basses.
MAPLE NECK + MAPLE FINGERBOARD
A maple neck and matching maple fingerboard are paired with 21 medium-jumbo frets and classic dot inlays.
OPEN-PORE SUNGKAI BODY
Rather than completely hiding the wood beneath a heavy-looking opaque finish, the open-pore treatment allows the natural character of the Sungkai body to remain part of the instrument's look and feel.

THE BMG TAKE
The Element 4OP makes sense for the bassist who wants more control without turning the instrument into a control panel.
Blend the two single coils. Shape the active EQ. Switch the preamp out when you want passive operation. Then get back to playing.
Its combination of a full 34-inch scale, maple playing surface, open-pore Sungkai body and switchable active/passive electronics gives the Element 4OP a feature set that can move comfortably between rehearsal rooms, recording setups and live rigs.
And in Trans Red, the grain stays part of the visual instead of disappearing underneath the finish.
One bass. Two electronic personalities. Plenty of room to build your sound.
